About Canadian Artist, Kristy Depper
Kristy Depper's artistic journey began in high school and college in Ottawa, which led to a 30-year career as a commercial photographer and Photoshop artist. Based in Toronto, she worked primarily for interior design publications and also served as a Digital Photography Instructor at Sheridan College.
While pursuing her Master of Fine Art at NSCAD University in Nova Scotia, her life took an unforeseen turn. The sudden death of her husband prompted her to earn a Bachelor of Education from St. FX University, with the intention of pivoting her career towards teaching. At that point, she believed her dream of making art might be behind her.

After moving back to Ottawa, however, a new path emerged. Encouraged by a friend, she took a pastel class at the Haliburton School of Art, where she unexpectedly discovered a profound new passion. Now, three years later, Kristy's work in watercolor, acrylics, and soft pastels is a joyful exploration distinct from her photographic eye. She is drawn to nature's landscapes and florals, focusing on expressive marks, bold brushstrokes, and vibrant layered colors rather than realism. Each piece is an invitation to engage with nature through happiness and discovery.

Kristy holds an MFA from NSCAD University, a BFA from Toronto Metropolitan University, and a Diploma in Commercial Photography from Sheridan College. By day, she is an Ottawa-based elementary school teacher, teaching French, Social Studies, and the arts.
